The Central Michigan men's and women's track and field teams started the indoor season strong at the Saginaw Valley State University Holiday Classic Friday afternoon.

he Chippewas will play host to its sole home meet of the season at the Jack Skoog Open on Jan. 17, held at the Jack Skoog Indoor Track at the Indoor Athletic Complex.

Joining the Chippewas' staff as assistant coaches will be Andrew Basler and Bryant Wilson. They join associate head coach Matt Kaczor and assistant coaches John Ridgway and Dionne Henley.

Guthrie claimed 22 national championships at Wisconsin-La Crosse before spending the last six seasons at Wisconsin as an assistant coach.
